I agree with the others that these are far beyond your every day computer speakers. I am getting clean clean sounds and an excellent balance. I was able to adjust the sound to my specifications with the awesome sound software on my computer. Now, I am finally glad I paid more for an upgraded sound system when I purchased this computer! I was certainly not benefiting from it with my plain old cheapy computer speakers.
I really enjoy having the headphone jack on the front of the speaker too. These speakers are nice and heavy…not all plastic like most of the ones I’ve had in the past. The box, as shipped, weighed 8lbs. I could not be more pleased with the Bose Companion 2 Series II speakers!

I have heard many reviews of Bose products. It is either ‘all in’ or ‘all out’. Well I must say, I’ve gone ‘all in” and I am very happy I did. These speakers do not, as some users say, “sound canned” – this user obviously does not know how to use the equalizer settings in his selected media player. I am currently using these speakers connected to a late 2007 Macbook Pro, and the sound is amazing. In Itunes if you go to preferences, turn on “sound enhancer” to the middle mark, and setting the equalizer to what ever setting is most appropriate to the music you are listening to, these speakers will blow you away. In many regards, I would compare these to being the Steinway & Sons of desktop 2.0 speakers – when you think they couldn’t go any louder, they can always keep going, and without hardly any distortion.

My judgement may be a little skewed as I haven’t upgraded my speakers for about 10 years. I originally bought these for my wife as she’s just getting into mp3 music and her old speakers just didn’t cut it. She didn’t like the Logitechs because the subwoofer was too big and there was not a convenient place to put it. So I gave her my 10 year old speakers and took the Logitechs. Boy did I come out ahead on that deal. I couldn’t believe how rich the sound was coming from these speakers, especially the subwoofer. Clear effects, vibrating base, and pure highs and mid-levels.

The logitech z-2300′s are incredible speakers. With 200 watts total rms, they overpower all speakers in and above this price range. The 120 watt subwoofer is amazing, with thunderous and crisp bass. When the bass is turned all the way up and volume halfway, my entire desk vibrates, as well as the window blinds. The two satellite speakers provide excellent quality sound. The only other speakers I can compare them too are the pair of harmon/kardons that came with my dell. Each speaker is 40 watts, again, more than any other set of speakers in this price range ( Androo ).

If you can afford these speakers, treat yourself. The sound is beyond anything I’ve heard from computer speakers. I think the built-in DAC adds significantly to the sound quality. You will notice a difference if you run audio into the aux in jack vs. the USB; the USB connection is far superior because it utilizes the DAC. These B&Ws aren’t cheap, but if you have an ear for quality, you will appreciate them. I also own the Bose Companion 3 speakers, which are fabulous. However, the B&Ws offer far superior detail.

Oooh my Goodness are these speakers are spectacular. Once upon a time I wrote the longest review on Amazon ever comparing the Bose Companion 5′s with Klipsch THX and a set of Logitechs – all 2.1 speaker sets. The Bose Companion 5′s won out for their bright clarity, surround effect, rich bass etc. They pleased me immensely… for about a year. What I started noticing, across every set that I have since then tried, was that I just got tired of listening. Silence prevailed. Music that doesn’t sound amazing can only be tolerated for so long, especially if you’re not nuts about the song and I found that I could only take it in small bursts. I have now listened to probably 20 different ipod docks and self powered speaker solutions, have taken home 10, (and returned 7) and truly there is no sound quite as clear and perfect as these speakers.
